This was a surprisingly well written book about a fascinating time in our nations history. While current opinion has been very critical of the way the Indians of the plains were treated, McLaughlin shares the opinion of one who was in charge of carrying out the policies of the US government. He was married to an Indian woman who was very articulate and helped him write the book. He was not without compassion to the Indian's plight. He tried and failed at times to be humane and just in his dealings, and lamented the demise of Sitting Bull as an inevitable evil. interesting and enjoyable book
I am part Native American and have one of the few original editions. I fine book about the Sioux Indian nation.
Purchased for my Grandfather and he loved it, thought it was very informational
